Frequently Asked Questions

Membership & Joining SAA

Who can join the SAA?

We welcome artists of all skill levels and stages of their careers. Membership is open to artists living in Savannah and the surrounding areas.

Is there a "juried" process to become a member?

No. There is no jury process to join the Association. We believe in being a resource for all artists, whether you are just starting out or are a seasoned professional.

How do membership dues work?

Memberships are valid for one year. Upon signing up, you can choose to enable auto-renew; otherwise, you will receive an email reminder to renew online at the end of your term. These dues allow us to continue securing venues and supporting the local arts community.

How is the SSA run?

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Association is run entirely by a Board of Directors and Officers who are all dedicated volunteers.

Can I volunteer to help?

Yes! We always welcome the participation of volunteers to help our various committees thrive. If you are interested in giving back, please check the "Opportunities" section within the Members Area of our website to see how you can get involved.

Artist Profiles

Do I get a profile page on the SAA website?

Yes! Every member is featured in the "SAA Artists" section of our website. Once you become a member, you are in control of your own dedicated space.

How do I manage my artist page?

You can edit your information at any time under the "My Profile" tab when logged in. We encourage you to customize this space to showcase your brand:

  • Bio: Under the "About" section, you can share your story and artistic journey.

  • Profile Image: We highly encourage a photo of yourself so the community can get to know the face behind the art!

  • Portfolio: You can add images of your work within the "About" area.

  • Links: You may include one direct link to your personal website or social media page.

Who is responsible for updating my profile?

You are! One of the biggest perks of SAA membership is that you have direct access to update your bio, images, and links whenever you like. This ensures your most current work and contact information are always available to collectors and fans.

Exhibiting & Sales

Where do you currently exhibit?

We exhibit in various high-visibility locations throughout Savannah. You can find our current locations on our Gallery Page. We are always seeking new venues and are actively working toward a permanent home for the Association.

How do I get my work into an exhibit?

Members have exclusive access to the "Members Only" section of our website, where all current Calls for Entry are listed. Most of our venues operate on a 3-month rotation.

What is the "Change Out" and Reception schedule?

  • Change Outs: Occur on the first Thursday of every month.

  • Receptions: Held on the following First Friday at the specific exhibit location.

  •

Is there a fee to enter my artwork?

  • Standard Exhibits: There is a $15 entry fee per artwork. Once you submit the form and pay the fee, your work is accepted into the show.

  • Cobra Room: This is our only juried exhibit due to its limited space. There is no fee to enter, but there is a $10 fee if your work is selected for display.

Does SAA take a commission on sales?

Yes. To support our operations, a commission is taken on all sales. For most venues, the commission is 25%. The exception is the Cobra Room, which has a commission of 35%.

Who handles the sales transactions?

All sales are processed online through our website's Gallery page. For convenience, we provide posters with QR codes at each physical venue so buyers can purchase work instantly on-site.

Logistics & Requirements

What are the framing and hanging requirements?

Our venues utilize professional hanging systems. All work must be wired; saw-tooth hangers are not accepted. Framing is optional but not required, provided the work is properly wired.

What happens if I can’t make the scheduled pick-up time?

Because our venues are shared spaces and not permanent SAA locations, we have no storage capacity. We cannot hold work and are not liable for pieces left behind. If you cannot make the scheduled time, you must make prior arrangements for someone else to collect your work.

What happens if I miss the drop-off time?

Entry fees are non-refundable. If artwork is not dropped off at the stated date and time, it will not be included in the physical exhibit. However, the work will still be featured in our online gallery for the duration of the show.

Engagement & Perks

Are there any member-only perks?

Absolutely. The Members Only section features perks available exclusively to current members, including official Calls for Entry, member-only events, volunteer opportunities, and resources for artistic growth.

How do I stay informed about SAA news and events?

We keep our community updated through a monthly newsletter and "as needed" emails. Our [Events Page] is the best place to find dates for upcoming gatherings.

Can I attend SAA meetings?

Yes! Our Board Meetings are open to all current members, as well as those interested in learning more about us before joining. We believe in transparency and welcome your involvement.

What are "Round Table" discussions?

These are excellent for networking and professional growth! They offer a space for free learning and sharing ideas with fellow artists. You can learn more about these on our Events Page.

Support & The Future of SAA

Does SAA have a permanent gallery space?

We are currently a "gallery-without-walls," focusing on premier pop-up locations and high-visibility partnerships around the city. Establishing a permanent home for the Savannah Art Association is a goal we are actively working toward!

How can I support the SAA?

Beyond membership and volunteering, you can support our mission through donations. Your contributions help us secure venues and move closer to our goal of a permanent home. You can find our Donation Button under the "Join Us" section of our website. Since we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, your donations are tax-deductible. Donate Link
