Meet the Curator: Marcela Sinnet
We were thrilled to have Marcela Sinnet serve as the curator for the "After the Harvest" exhibition. Marcela is an emerging talent, currently completing her MFA at Georgia State University (GSU) and working as a Gallery Assistant at SCAD's Gutstein Gallery in downtown Savannah.
Her selections were driven by the exhibition's title, "After the Harvest," interpreted both literally and conceptually. She explains her process:
My decisions were primarily based on the title, 'After the Harvest.' I chose some works that didn't convey the theme literally but instead evoked a contemplative or restful feeling associated with the post-harvest period. Other pieces reflected a more direct interpretation. I also considered the works' connection to Georgia and the overall conceptual strength and technical skill of the artists in the selection process.
Marcela's personal artistic practice, which you can view on her website, centers on deep cultural dialogue. Through mixed media printmaking and illustrations, she creates new symbols to promote an inclusive dialogue around identity, specifically exploring the positive and negative aspects of mestizaje in El Salvador.
