ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Rebecca "Becky" Marcussen
We are thrilled to feature our Artist of the Month, a talented artist whose creative journey spans sign painting, teaching, murals, and fine art, and who finds endless inspiration in the natural beauty of coastal Georgia.
Art has been part of her life from the beginning, inspired by her father, a talented draftsman and engineer. She began her professional art career in 1979, creating illustrations for Yellow Pages advertisements before becoming a sign painter. After 15 years in the sign-painting business, she returned to school, earning a bachelor’s degree in Two-Dimensional Studio Art and a master’s degree in Painting and Ceramics.
Throughout her career, she has shared her passion for art through teaching children and adults, including individuals with disabilities and incarcerated students. Her artistic experience also includes faux painting, murals, and painted furniture. She helped establish the Effingham Art Guild in Illinois nearly 30 years ago and continues to return to teach watercolor and pastel workshops.
Having called Georgia home for more than a decade, she loves Savannah’s vibrant art scene and draws inspiration from the region’s wildlife, birds, marshes, beaches, and the great outdoors.
We’re delighted to celebrate her artistic journey and the beauty of the Lowcountry that continues to inspire her work!
Discover her artwork in person at our Fitness on Broughton (FOB) Gallery and Coffee Deli Gallery, and experience her unique perspective on the natural beauty of coastal Georgia.
